1. Products & updates

1.1 dBarcode.NET components Version 3

dLSoft is pleased to announce the launch of new versions of the dBarcode.NET family of products. The new versions generate enhanced metafile barcode images (in addition to the pixel-aligned bitmap images of earlier versions), allowing high resolution barcode images to be created, printed or saved to memory streams of disk files.

For details see: http://www.dlsoft.com/products/developers/dbcdotnet.htm

1.2 Barcode 2D Tools for Crystal Reports

dLSoft is pleased to announce the release of Barcode 2D Tools for Crystal Reports. dLSoft Barcode 2D Tools for Crystal Reports provides the tools needed to include several common 2D barcodes within Crystal Reports XI, either as graphic images or (with limitations) as font-based barcodes. Limited size Font-based Aztec, Datamatrix, PDF417 and QR Code barcodes may also be included in reports created using earlier versions of Crystal Reports, and barcode graphic images may be included in packages created using the Crystal Reports Designer Component for VB6 included with Crystal Reports 8.5 and 9.

1.3  Product updates

Linear Databar added to 1D products

As the widespread introduction of GS1 Databar barcodes approaches, the linear member of the GS1-Databar family of barcodes (ie. Omnidirectional, Limited, Truncated and Expanded) have been added updated versions of the following dLSoft products:

Active Barcode Component 1D Universal (v 5.1)

Active Barcode Component GS1 (v 5.1)

AnyLabels  (v 3.2)
Barcode Macros for Office (v 5.1)

dBarcode DLL 1D Universal (v 5.1)

dBarcode.DLL GS1 (v 5.1)

dBarcode 1D Developer Kit (v8.2)

dBarcode .NET 1D Universal (v 3.0)

dBarcode .NET GS1 (v 3.0)

dBarcode Pro (v 8.01)

dBarcode Suite (v 8.01)

dLabel Pro (v 8.01)

Really Simple Barcodes (v 2.6)

Universal Barcode Font Kit (v 4.21)

dBarcode 2D Developer Kit gets fonts!

The dBarcode 2D Developers Kit (version 8.2) has now been upgraded to the same level of functionality as the 1D kit, by the addition of font-based barcodes for Aztec, Datamatrix, PDF417 and QR Code symbols, in addition to the linear variants of GS1-Databar. The new version also includes a sample for Mailmerge in Word, and a Delphi component for creating images within Delphi.

Really Simple Barcodes for PC get high-resolution metafiles

Really Simple Barcodes for PC (v 2.6) now has the option to export enhanced metafiles, making the product ideal for creating barcode image files for CorelDraw, Illustrator and other vector design packages.

Other enhancements in this release include the addition of the linear variants of the GS1 Databar barcodes.

Testware versions are available from our web site. Users of the earlier versions may upgrade under our normal terms.

1.3 Other product updates and bug fixes

Active Barcode Components step back!

Active Barcode Components do not require the presence of specific MFC libraries on the computer on which they are used. However, it has been drawn to our attention that there is a function clash between the recent release of these components and some older reporting software that supports Active-X but requires older versions of the Microsoft MFC libraries. All Active Barcode Components have now been rebuilt using an older version of Visual Studio (v 2003) to avoid this clash.

No other functional change in the products is involved (apart from the addition of Databar – see above).

Barcode Macros Help file update

The Help file and manual for Barcode Macros for Office has been updated to provide clearer instructions for making the in-line formula function available to all Excel spreadsheets.

Testware versions are available from our web site. Users of the earlier versions may upgrade under our normal terms.

2 Recent announcements (from March issue)

2.1 dLSoft launches Barcode Tools for Crystal Reports

dLSoft is pleased to announce the launch of a new product for creating barcodes within Crystal Reports. Although primarily designed for use with Crystal Reports XI or later, some functions are applicable to older versions of Crystal Reports or the Report Designer Component included with earlier versions.

The product is available as a single computer licenced version for use with Windows 2000/XP/Vista, or as a server licenced version which includes servlets for both Windows and Java.

For details see http://www.dlsoft.com/products/BarcodesForCrystalReports.htm

2.2  Product retirements

The following members of the dBarcode Java Class family have been retired:

Code 39/93

Code 128

EAN/UPC

ITF

The functionality provided by those products is available in the dBarcode Java Class – 1D Universal.

2.3 Other product updates and bug fixes

A large number of updates were released during March, some are minor bug fixes and are our fault, others are the result of changes announced by various standards bodies. As most products are affected by one or more of the changes we do not include the complete list of effected products here, and the dates of the latest release may be seen at

http://downloads.dlsoft.com/testware/versions.htm

a)      All products supporting ISMN barcodes have been modified to adhere to the January 2008 ISMN barcode standard. [The new standard is mandatory by the end of 2008] We have taken the opportunity to remove support for the creation of old ISBN 10 barcodes (10 digit ISBN numbers will automatically be converted to ISBN-13 barcodes). The related ISSN barcodes may now be created from 8 digit ISSN numbers without requiring a sequence variant number.

b)      All products supporting OneCode barcodes will now follow the 2007 revision for the barcode size [The new standard is mandatory by the end of 2009]

c)      All products supporting Datamatrix barcodes now include a setting to permit GS1-Datamatrix encodation without requiring a FNC1 character in the data stream.

d)     All products supporting GS1-128 Application Identifiers specified in the GS1 General Specification 2007 are now handled automatically (without requiring the user to provide FNC1 characters to terminate variable length identifiers).

e)      A bug in our QR Code algorithm which prevented symbols consisting of a single digit from being created correctly has been fixed!

f)       A bug in our Databar algorithm which prevented the correct encoding of ISO 646 characters in Expanded-Stacked Databar symbols has been fixed.

Testware versions are available from our web site. Users of the earlier versions may upgrade under our normal terms.
